Hello, I am Dr. SEE. My research focus is education. Early in my doctoral studies, I was blessed to research the topic of homeschooling and became drawn to this personalized approach to education and the wisdom behind it.

Later, I founded Sunflower Education InstitutE (SEE platform) to conduct research and provide services for homeschooling families. My research interests—parental agency, homeschooling, and educational policy—are closely intertwined with the actual practice of homeschooling.

While I have previously shared basic information about over 70 different home learning platforms on our social media channels, space has been limited. Recently, my team engaged in dialogues with several of these platforms to gain a deeper understanding of their underlying philosophies. This is the third installment in our series of platform reviews, and we hope it provides you with valuable insights.

Across the United States and around the world, millions of children are currently being educated at home—an alternative to traditional school-based education (Ray, 2017, 2026; Yin 2022, 2025).

Based on my research, children who are homeschooled pursue a wide variety of academic majors and professional careers. Many American universities hold homeschooled students in particularly high regard. During a recent education conference, I spoke with several university admissions officers who noted that homeschooled students often demonstrate exceptional learning motivation and time-management skills.

Families choose this educational path for a complex, multifaceted set of reasons. There is no single, standardized developmental trajectory for a child; while some thrive in a school environment, others are better suited to homeschooling, benefiting from the direct guidance and personal example of their parents.

Over the past few decades, homeschooling parents and educators have diligently developed numerous effective learning platforms—such as Teaching Textbooks, the mathematics platform we are highlighting in this essay.

Originating in Oklahoma, this platform offers curriculum content for grades 3 through 12—roughly spanning from the fourth grade of primary school through the high school level for Chinese families. The curriculum is compatible with a wide range of devices, including Windows-based PCs, Apple products, Google Chromebooks, and Amazon Kindles, and it also supports offline use.

In the United States, millions of children are homeschooled. For homeschooling mothers, choosing a platform for mathematics is necessary as the subject matter becomes increasingly challenging in the higher grades, making it difficult for parents to provide direct assistance.

The advantages of the Teaching Textbooks platform include: every problem comes with an immediate answer and explanation; for some difficult questions, hints are provided, allowing children the opportunity to attempt the problem again before revealing the correct answer. The platform also features automated grading, with a parent dashboard that tracks the child’s progress. It is highly user-friendly, requiring minimal additional time or effort from parents.

I know homeschooling mothers who have used this platform consistently from the start of their homeschooling journey. Since they don’t have to teach the math themselves—the children can learn, practice, and receive explanations directly through the platform—it significantly reduces the burden on the parents. The platform incorporates a degree of repetition, reflecting an educational philosophy based on a “spiral” curriculum: concepts are revisited with gradually increasing complexity to help children solidify their understanding.

Furthermore, despite being a computer-based program, the platform offers a high level of interactivity. “Every concept is tagged with the specific lesson where it was first introduced. If a child gets a question wrong or does not know how to answer it, they can easily return to the relevant lesson to review that concept. It has been a huge help for parents like me,” explains Grace Xu, a mother who homeschooled five children in Shanghai for a decade.

To add rewards to the homeschooling experience, the platform provides downloadable digital certificate templates that parents can use to encourage children for completing specific stages of the curriculum.

The platform also offers “Math Facts” sheets through printable resources that can be displayed at home to help children quickly grasp fundamental mathematical operations. Additionally, there are coloring pages available for download, which can serve as a fun way for children to take a break from their studies. You can access these by visiting the platform’s homepage and navigating to the “Printables” section.

This overview and the accompanying screenshots are based on information from the platform’s official website, insights from homeschooling parents, and research conducted by our team.
